How Do I Get Here?
For those coming from outside the five boroughs, you are in luck! New York City has a variety of very easy transit options. If you're flying in, we highly recommend booking your flight into John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) or LaGuardia (LGA); Newark (EWR) is another close by option, but a little farther than JFK or LGA. Train options are also plentiful, run by Amtrak, NJ Transit, and MetroNorth (you'll want to book your train into New York Penn Station / Grand Central Station). Because parking can be incredibly expensive and/or difficult to find, we recommend you do NOT drive.
Once you are in the city, the subway and cabs/ride sharing (like Uber and Lyft) make getting around a breeze. TUFFET is just three short blocks south of the Graham Avenue L stop, or a ten minute car ride from either of the hotels listed below.
Where Should I Stay?
New York is overrun with hotel options, so you have a lot of options. The party is located in Brooklyn, making Williamsburg an ideal neighborhood to stay if you want easy access to the venue. Below are two great options. If you're making a trip of it and would rather stay closer to the action of NYC, we recommend looking at options in Lower Manhattan/Financial District; they'll be slightly cheaper and less crowded than staying in the heart of Times Square.
High End
96 Wythe Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11249
Located in a renovated factory in the heart of trendy Williamsburg, The Williamsburg Hotel has chic rooms and great service. Plus, their complimentary "tuk-tuk" is available to drive you around!
Mention Will & Carly when booking via phone or enter code 180608WEIL when booking online by April 24, 2018 for a discounted group rate of $375.
Low End
247 Metropolitan Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11211
Based on the popular Japanese "capsule" hotels, the Pod Hotel Brooklyn offers minimalist but upscale accommodations. Rooms are available with bunk or queen beds.
Unfortunately no group rate, but normal rates average around $220.
What's Happening When?
6pm - Doors open, grab a drink and hit the lawn games!
7pm - Dinner's ready, head to the food trucks!
9pm - Did someone say donuts?
10pm - Closing time; you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here...
What Should I Wear?
Let's keep things casual! Jeans, shorts, sundresses, flip-flops - it all sounds good to us. Seriously, please do not show up in a suit or gown!
TUFFET is a low-key wine bar in Brooklyn, and we aren't fancy. New York in June tends to be toasty (80s) during the day but can drop cooler (low 60s) in the evening. We'll be occupying both the space inside the bar and outside in their backyard, so dress in whatever makes you comfortable depending on the forecast.
What Else Can I Do In NYC?
New York is a big place and there are tons of great sightseeing resources online (like this one!) - Below are a few of our personal favorite spots to check out if you plan on being in town for a few days:
Coney Island (neighborhood, Brooklyn)
Our favorite "hidden gem," especially for those who have been to NYC before and want to try something new. The amusement park and arcades are great. Don't forget to grab a hot dog from Nathan's and ride the Cyclone roller-coaster (although maybe not in that order). If you have extra time, you can even catch a Brooklyn Cyclones Minor League Baseball game or walk to New York's "Little Russia" in Brighton Beach.
Union Square Greenmarket (shopping, Union Square)
The best year-round farmers' market in the city. We love coming here for all sorts of goodies. As a bonus, it's around the corner from the Taco Bell where we had our first date!
Lido (restaurant, Harlem)
One of the best weekend brunch spots (at least in our opinion!) is across the street from our old apartment. Head here for unlimited mimosas!
Kiku Sushi (restaurant, Chelsea)
If you like sushi, check out this all-you-can-eat-and-drink spot, where we were nicely asked to leave after eating too much.
The Campbell Apartment (bar, Grand Central)
Our favorite bar, hidden within Grand Central Station, is full of that "old New York" charm.
What If I Have Another Question?
